Jeff Lampe has been outdoor writer at the Journal Star in Peoria for 12 duck seasons. He lives in Elmwood with his wife Monica, sons Henry, Victor and Walter, and Llewellin setter Hawkeye. A native of Buffalo, N.Y., he is an avid fan of the Bills and still has mental scars from four consecutive Super Bowl losses. Outside of hunting and fishing, Lampe's main passion in Illinois was Class A boys basketball (which sadly no longer exists). Former publisher of the Class A Weekly newsletter, Lampe is a co-author of "100 Years of Madness" and "Classical Madness," both books focusing on prep basketball in Illinois.

Another fishing report, another busy day. Help.

FROM: Ed Kaizer of Peoria:

“I’ve just returned from Nantucket Island where we played some music for a benefit island gala and got in some fantastic fishing. My brother, Capt. Pete Kaizer, reminds me to use the verb “catching” — which is what he does whenever he takes his charter boat out. I’m forwarding you a picture of one of the many striped bass that we caught — 44 inches, about 34 pounds, casting on a popper. And we had to throw back a few 28 pounders. Pete is available for charters for a variety of fishing. In his case, catching. More information is available on his Web site.  It’s an exciting fishing / catching trip; I think the picture tells the story.”

FROM Joe Kurete of Plainfield:

“Great website! Kudos to all the members of the team who support with articles. They are very informative in all aspects of the outdoor community.
I appreciate everyone’s effort. Keep up the great work! I especially appreciate the pictures of kids. It’s up to all of us to pass the enjoyment of the outdoors to the next generation. It’s great to see little ones with a big smile of confidence & pride.”

FROM Nick Joesting:

“Thought you might enjoy this picture. My son Remington(14 months old) was lucky enough to win his first gun in a youth raffle, a Red Ryder BB gun thanks to the Spoon River Valley Pheasants Forever booth at the Rice Lake duck blind drawing. I wouldn’t have been happier even if I was first out of the hat for the blind drawings. In the picture from left to right is myself (Nick), my son Remington and chapter president Mike Dorethy.”
