Inaugural lunch includes pheasant, duck

January 09, 2009 at 10:37 AM

Obviously this is not major Illinois outdoor news, but for some reason I was surprised to read that Barack Obama and Joe Biden were going to eat pheasant and duck at the inaugural luncheon. Duck? Pheasant? I’m betting they don’t eat a lot of pheasant. And I’m also betting there won’t be any shot pellets in the birds they eat. But I’ve been wrong a lot already about Obama. This guy keeps surprising me.

Here’s the story.

Seafood stew, pheasant on inaugural luncheon menu

WASHINGTON (AP) - Barack Obama and Joe Biden will dine on seafood stew, pheasant and duck, and apple cinnamon sponge cake at their Inaugural luncheon.

Details of the Capitol Hill luncheon following the Jan. 20 swearing in were announced Friday. The luncheon in Statuary Hall is for some 200 guests, including the new president, vice president, their families and members of the Supreme Court, the incoming Cabinet and Congress.

Accompanying the meal will be California wines. The chairwoman of the congressional panel overseeing the inaugural is Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.

The meal’s first course will be served on replicas of china from the Lincoln presidency. Virginia companies designed the menu and the floral arrangement.
