Jeff Lampe

Jeff Lampe has been outdoor writer at the Journal Star in Peoria for 12 duck seasons. He lives in Elmwood with his wife Monica, sons Henry, Victor and Walter, and Llewellin setter Hawkeye. A native of Buffalo, N.Y., he is an avid fan of the Bills and still has mental scars from four consecutive Super Bowl losses. Outside of hunting and fishing, Lampe's main passion in Illinois was Class A boys basketball (which sadly no longer exists). Former publisher of the Class A Weekly newsletter, Lampe is a co-author of "100 Years of Madness" and "Classical Madness," both books focusing on prep basketball in Illinois.

An Iowa buck worth ogling

December 14, 2007 at 10:49 AM

Here’s another big-buck e-mail with precious few details. According to the e-mail, this buck was shot in Iowa’s Benton County by a hunter named Jeff during this year’s first shotgun season. The 20-point buck supposedly green-scored 235 inches. I can’t vouch for the veracity of any of that information. But it is a massive buck.

Somewhere, a bowhunter must have felt sick to his stomach after reviewing this trail-cam picture. This one would be hard to take, unless of course it is a photoshop invention.
