All eyes on Asian carp

Bowfishing for Asian carp on the Illinois River has gained national attention in recent days thanks to a video clip of Chris Brackett of Bartonville that was featured video Monday, Aug. 13 on the site.  imageBrackett was also featured in a Chicago Tribune article Tuesday that led the paper’s Tempo section. The story and the video illustrate something many people can hardly believe: there are literally uncountable numbers of jumping Asian carp in the Illinois River.

And while most anglers find it harder to catch fish in the heat and humidity, Asian carp will jump well in the dog days of summer. That’s why now is a good time to consider taking a trip on the Illinois River, whether to go snagging below Peoria Lock and Dam or to try to shoot an airborne Asian carp anywhere on the Illinois River.
