Archery deer hunters make up some ground in week 3

Illinois archery deer hunters have killed a preliminary total of 12,529 deer through Oct. 20.

The preliminary number through the same period last year was 14,207.

That's 1,678 off the previous year's pace compared with last week, when numbers lagged behind 2012 by more than 2,500 deer.

Through Oct. 14, Illinois archery deer hunters killed a preliminary total of 8,619 deer, down from 11,154 during the same period last year.

Harvest to date consists of 68 percent does (8,576) and 32 percent males (3,953).

The top five counties are Pike (471), Fulton (355), Jefferson (339), Vermilion (269), and Adams (258).
