Drawings for trapping permits at state sites start Saturday

Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area

A public drawing for the allocation of Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area trapping permits will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 21.

Registration will begin at 1 p.m. at the site headquarters, located approximately five miles southeast of Chandlerville.

One permit for each of the five trapping zones will be allocated through a lottery-type drawing.

All persons attempting to enter the drawing must have a current 2013 trapping license in their possession and be in attendance. DP (dog proof) traps, live traps, and traps of similar action may be used.

Homemade dog proof traps must be designed with a foothold trap no larger than a #2 in an enclosed wood, metal, or durable plastic container, with a single access opening no larger than 1.5 inches diameter.

All body-gripping traps must be totally submerged. For more information, call (217) 452-7741.

Sangchris Lake Trapping Permit Drawing:

One trapping permit will be awarded at a public drawing to be held on Sat., Oct. 19 at the site headquarters of Sangchris Lake State Park, 9898 Cascade Road, Rochester, IL 62563.

Registration for the drawing will begin at 10 a.m. at the site office, and the drawing will be held at 11 a.m.

Trapping will be permitted in the designated area from the statewide opening until Jan. 25, 2014, and include the extended spring season for mink and muskrat through Feb. 15, 2014; and, beaver and otter trapping, which are allowed through Mar. 31, 2014.

A 2012 or 2013 trapping license or trapper education card will be required to register for the drawing.

Two names will be allowed on the permit and registrants must be in attendance for the drawing.

Trapping Permits Drawing in Pittsfield:

A public drawing for the allocation of three furbearer trapping permits --- two for the Ray Norbut State Fish and Wildlife Area in Pike Co. (one for the main site near Valley City and the other for a satellite property near East Hannibal) – and the other permit for Weinberg-King State Park - Spunky Bottoms Unit in Brown Co.

The drawings will be held at the IDNR Pittsfield District Field Office at 7 p.m. on Wed., Oct. 16. Registration will begin at 6 p.m. at the office, which is located on Highway 106 West in Pittsfield.

The permits will be valid for a two-year period.

All persons entering the drawing must have a current 2013 trapping license in possession.

The person whose name is drawn must be in attendance.
