MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A state Senator from north Alabama says he'll look to reverse legislation requiring hunters to report their kills to state officials.

The Decatur Daily reported Sunday (http://bit.ly/1c6uOUN ) that Republican Sen. Paul Sanford of Huntsville says a new law requiring hunters to report deer and turkey kills to state officials within 24 hours is unnecessary.

Hunters are now required to report kills by telephone, smartphone app or online. Failure to file a report could result in a fine of up to $500. The information is shared online.

State officials say the game check rule is aimed at monitoring the population of deer and turkeys in the state, and keeping track of how many of the animals are killed annually.
