Ice anglers flock to Brainerd for charity tournament

It is billed as the World’s Largest Charitable Ice Fishing Contest.

The Brainerd, Minn. Jaycees $150,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza was held last Saturday, Jan. 19.

Each year the contest draws more than 10,000 anglers who compete for more than $150,000 in prizes. There are 150 prizes, including a new pickup, a snowmobile and a fish house.

All proceeds go to area nonprofits.

According to the organization’s Website: http://icefishing.org, the event generates $1 million in revenue for local businesses and raises $200,000 for local charities.

The event started in 1991.
