OGDEN DUNES, Ind. (AP) — An Indiana Department of Indiana Natural Resources official has denied a bid by residents of a town along Lake Michigan to block its deer cull.

Administrative Law Judge Steve Lucas said Monday the town of Ogden Dunes has a valid special purpose deer control permit.

The Times of Munster reports ( Lucas also said it’s not within his power to grant their request for a temporary protective emergency order stopping the deer cull from continuing.

The town received a state permit last month giving it permission to conduct the cull within the town’s limits between Nov. 26 and Feb. 28.

The deer cull has roiled the community since the Town Council first applied for a permit last year.
