Tony Killon and Bob Sexton took first place in the most recent installment of the Lake Springfield Open Buddy Tournament Series with a big blue catfish that dwarfed their other fish of the night.

The duo took first place with a total weight of 40.4 pounds. Of that amount, 38.6 pounds belonged to a single blue catfish – also the biggest fish of the tournament.

Their other fish was a channel catfish weighing 1.8 pounds.

“We had five blues weighed in, and that’s pretty good,” says tournament organizer Willie Schrader.

Forty-five boats turned out for the tournament held May 21.

Second place went to Rick and Michael White with 35.66 pounds.

John Fifer and Aaron Taylor were third with 32.8 pounds.

The next tournament will be an evening tournament launching at 6 p.m. June 25 from the Lindsay Bridge Boat Ramp.

Tournament hours run until 2 a.m. June 26.
