MARINETTE, Wis. (AP) - Marinette authorities say a fisherman has died after he jumped off a dock to retrieve a fishing pole.

Police say the 49-year-old Menominee man was with at least three kids Friday afternoon when he went in the waters of the Menominee River.

Assistant fire Chief Brad Bourdelais says two boys at the scene lost sight of the man.

Emergency personnel arrived in about five minutes and found him almost immediately in water that was about 10 feet deep.

He was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead.

The Marinette EagleHerald says an autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.

Marinette County coroner George Smith says the man was disabled and used a pacemaker.

The man’s name has not been released.
