Eureka Lake still a bass hotspot

For years, Wayne Herndon has touted tiny Eureka Lake as one of the finest bass fishing lakes in central Illinois.

Every now and then, though, you’ll still hear grumbling from bass anglers who aren’t able to catch fish out of the small lake, open to trolling motors only (gas engines can’t even be on a boat).

Well, Monday’s annual survey by fisheries biologists proved once again that the Eureka bass fishery is still excellent. So good in fact, that Eureka Police Chief Eric Luckey (pictured above in a nice shot by Flathead) was able to hoist a 6.7-pound bass that biologists netted.

Apparently the chief has had trouble catching bass out of the lake and wanted to see results of the survey for himself.

Guess he’s a believer now.
