Mike McNett of Lombard was captain of the winning USA Ice Team at the 2010 World Ice Fishing Championship in Rhinelander, Wisc.

“We thought we’d be happy with something in the middle of the pack,” McNett told Paul Smith of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Tell me I’m not imagining it.”

Instead of placing in the middle of the pack, team USA won with 39 points. Points are based by the weight of fish caught and the order in which anglers finish in five daily sections. Poland was second last weekend with 54 points.

Other Illinois anglers included Tony Boshold of Carol Stream and Bob Esbensen of Palatine.
