Sam Flood leaves DNR

Brian Brueggemann and Jacqueline Lee of the Belleville News-Democrat report that Sam Flood has left his position as assistant director at the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

DNR Director Kurt Granberg Illinois hunting and fishingtold the News-Democrat that Flood “wants to spend more time with his family.”

Flood’s 18-year-old grandson, Keaton Flood, was recently killed a in car crash.

“I talked to him briefly yesterday morning,” Granberg told the News-Democrat. “He’s just devastated. It’s a terrible tragedy.”

Flood had served as acting director of the DNR from December 2005 to Jan. 16 of this year when Granberg was appointed. Flood had come under scrutiny for inaction while at DNR and for racking up sizable travel expenses.
