Youth deer hunt and archery numbers below last year

Archery deer season update

Through Oct. 14, Illinois archery deer hunters killed a preliminary total of 8,619 deer, down from 11,154 during the same period last year.

Sex ratios to date consist of 70 percent does (6,047) and 30 percent males (2,572). Top five counties were Pike (343), Fulton (237), Jefferson (229), Vermilion (205), and Adams (182).

Youth deer season

The youth firearm deer season held Oct. 12-14 concluded Monday with a preliminary reported total of 2,988 deer.

Last year, young hunters killed 3,118 deer during a two-day season.

Harvest sex ratios consisted of 49 percent does (1,468) and 51 percent males (1,520).

The top five counties were Pike (166), Randolph (88), Fulton (85), Adams (83), and Jefferson (79).
