Top 5 wildlife violations

Prairie State Outdoors

Deer permit violations are by far the most common reason hunters are given a citation in Illinois.

For the first nine months of 2011, 677 game violations were written on all species.

The figure does not include the October through December heart of hunting season.

Numbers of citations issued for each violation are gleaned from the past two-and-a-half years of data, according to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

The number before each violation refers to the section of the Wildlife Code.

The Illinois Wildlife Code is: 520 ILCS 5/

1. 2.26: Deer hunting permits (approximately 548 citations issued annually).
2. 2.33n: Hunting from a vehicle or unlawful transport of a weapon (324 citations issued annually).
3. 3.1A: No valid hunting license (226 citations annually).
4. 2.24:Unlawful take or possession of deer (193 citations annually).
5. 2.33T: Unlawful hunt without permission of landowner (190 citations annually).
