Tales from the Timber: 21-pointer

August 04, 2009 at 06:44 AM

Shotgun season was approaching, so Scott Prosser decided to go out for an afternoon hunt on Nov. 15 of 2008.

The bowhunter from Noble soon saw an 8-point buck run past while chasing a doe. But that was not the deer he was looking for.

That buck finally showed up just before dark. With the sun on its descent, the heavy-beamed 21-pointer came within 16 yards of Prosser’s stand. He took a less-than-perfect shot but managed to drop the 255-pound buck in about 100 yards.

Prosser then donated the meat to Illinois Sportsman Against Hunger.

The impressive 21-point rack, however, was sent to a taxidermist.

Prosser said the buck grossed 197 4/8 inches non-typical and netted 184.
