St. Louis suburb to thin deer population

June 09, 2009 at 07:38 AM

TOWN AND COUNTRY, Mo. (AP) - For years, deer and people have been a sometimes difficult mix in the St. Louis suburb of Town and Country.

On Monday, aldermen voted in support of a plan to thin the ever-growing deer population.

The plan calls for reducing the estimated 600 to 800 deer that live within the city limits of the posh suburb by sterilizing some of the animals and euthanizing others.

Some oppose the plan, citing the gentle nature of the deer. But advocates of the plan say the deer cause accidents and are a nuisance.
