Schedule for campground, beach openings at Lake Shelbyville

Prairie State Outdoors

Fishing cleaning stations remain closed

Fish cleaning stations managed at Lake Shelbyville will be delayed in opening this year due to lingering winter weather conditions and concerns over the availability of funding.

Stations in Spillway East, Dam West, Opossum Creek, Coon Creek, Lone Point, Whitley Creek, Wilborn Creek, Forrest "Bo" Woods and Lithia Springs are affected.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, that manages Lake Shelbyville, has not announced when the fish cleaning stations will be available for use.

Campgrounds opening

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville has announced campground opening dates and fees for the 2013 season:

Bo Wood Campground

Campsites 114 - 141 opened last weekend on a first-come, first-served basis.

The campsite fees will be paid using the honor vault system until April 18.

The rest of the campground opens April 18.

Campsite fees are $18-24 per site per night.

Lithia Springs Campground opens April 18. The cost is $18-24 per site per night.

Coon Creek Campground opens May 2. The cost is $18-24 per site per night.

Lone Point Campground opens May 16. The cost is $16-24 per site per night.

Opossum Creek Campground will have an open house May 9 - 15.

Camping is free during this period and special events are scheduled May 10 – 11.

The regular fee of $16-24 per site per night will be collected starting May 16.

Make a reservation by calling 877-444-6777, ext. 2 or online at http://www.recreation.gov.

Reservations also can be made in person at the campground fee booth.

Public beaches

Beaches at Lake Shelbyville (Dam West, Sullivan and Wilborn Creek beaches) open May 25.

The cost is $1 per person per day. Total day-use fee will not exceed $4 per vehicle.

Children under 13, or those using the campgrounds will not be charged a day-use fee.
