March 12, 2011 at 06:55 AM

Rockford Register Star

Rockford is one of two Illinois cities nominated so far for the World Fishing Network’s search for “America’s Ultimate Fishing Town.”

The winner receives $25,000.

Local anglers can support Rockford’s nomination by adding photos, videos and essays on its web page,wfnfishingtown.com/town/rockford-il/182.

The only essay posted as of Thursday read: “The Rock River flows through the town of Rockford. It is one of the best flathead fisheries around. Fordam Dam is in the downtown area. We have access to the upper and lower parts of the river. Whatever you are fishing for, we got it.”

The state’s other nominee is Herrin.

The nomination period ends April 8. A round of public voting for regional winners is slated for April 12-May 3.

The 20 finalists (top two vote-getters in seven regions plus six wild-card entries) advance to the final round of voting May 10-31.

Eagle cam offers close-up look

The Raptor Resource Project have set up a webcam in a tree next to a bald eagle nest in Decorah, Iowa. The result is an outstanding view of the bird nesting on three eggs that were laid the past couple of weeks.

A counter on the web page shows how many people are viewing the site at any one time.
On Friday afternoon more than 9,000 were on the site.

To check out the webcam, go to ustream.tv/channel/decorah-eagles.
