Reward offered in shooting of bald eagle

March 03, 2010 at 11:40 AM

BRIGHTON, Ill. (AP) - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering a $1,000 reward for information about the person who shot and wounded an immature American bald eagle in western Illinois.

The service says the bird was shot near the McDonough County community of Good Hope. The eagle is believed to be 4 years old, and she’s now being treated and rehabbed at the Treehouse Wildlife Center in Brighton.

The injured raptor has a seven-foot wingspan and weighs about 13 pounds. She was found by a road commissioner Feb. 10 in Good Hope. The bird had been shot in the left wing.

Once healed, the eagle will be released back into the wild.
