Returning veterans can get half price hunting and fishing licenses in 2012

August 30, 2011 at 08:57 AM

Prairie State Outdoors

Veterans returning home from deployment overseas or mobilization by the President will be able to purchase a fishing, hunting or sportsmen’s combination license for half price starting in 2012.

Gov. Pat Quinn signed House Bill 3274 on Aug. 22.

Veterans will need to provide proof of service at one of DNR’s five regional offices.

Current license fees are:

Fishing license $12

Resident hunting license $14.50.

Combination license is $25.50.

The bill is effective April 1, 2012, the start of the new license year.

If you live close by it might be worth the drive.  With gas at $3.70 a gallon, it wouldn’t take many miles negate the savings from your reduced license fee.

This is a poorly written article! Headline should have read “Gov. Pat Quinn Needs To Balance The Budget So He Is going to Get It From Returning Veterans!” This article is making him look like a good guy! This is complete BS! Last year I got back from Afghanistan and drove my but to Springfield, this is what the state gave me (last year before the above mentioned bill).

FREE - Combo Hunt/Fish License
FREE - IL Duck Stamp (not Fed.)
FREE - Habitat Stamp
FREE - Shotgun Permit (any county of my choice, full or not)
FREE - Archery Combo (either sex and antlerless)
FREE - One year long camping pass to any state park campground.

Totally Awesome! Kudos to IL I said, what a way to welcome a guy home! Now I read this…and it’s written like he’s doing us a favor!

I’m not trying to piss and moan, I got a free ride last year and I’m very thankful for it. Just don’t post an article that makes it like he’s the good guy! I’m heading back again this Nov. and now I know what I’ll be coming home to. Man I need to find a new state to live in.
