Hundreds gathered Friday for the opening round of the Redneck Fishing Tournament in Bath.

Participants try to capture Asian carp from boats using hand nets as the fish leap through the air.

Thousands of pounds of the fish are caught annually in the event.

Journal Star photographer David Zalaznik was along for the precarious ride on the Illinois River.

Angela Stephens, right, and her sister, Brittney, left, of Wentzville, Missouri, along with their father, Dan Mack, carry their load of Asian carp. The family caught 111 of the carp in the two hour outing.
