A tour of railroad prairies will be held from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. June 8 in Peoria and Knox Counties.

The field trip, co-sponsored by the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission and Illinois Audubon Society, will visit three abandoned railroad sites in search of prairie plants and birds.

Starting at the Forest Park Nature Center, participants will caravan to the Rock Island Trail Prairie Nature Preserve near Princeville, the Brimfield Railroad Prairie Nature Preserve at Brimfield and the Knox Station Prairie Natural Heritage Landmark at Knoxville.

The registration cost of $10 covers water and snacks. Lunch is available for an extra charge or participants can bring their own.

Dress for the conditions, including proper footwear, long pants and sun protection.
