Waterfowl hunters can look forward to a 60-day duck season again this year.

Proposed waterfowl season dates and bag limits for the 2013-14 seasons were announced by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Wednesday.

Final dates and regulations are subject to approval by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service later this summer.

The recommendations include 60-day duck seasons in each of the state’s four waterfowl hunting zones.

Also proposed are Canada goose hunting seasons of 90 days in the north and central zones, a 84-days in the south central Zone, and a 65-days in the south zone.

Seasons are based on a five-year plan developed in 2011 that continues through 2015.

The daily bag limit is six ducks, including no more than four mallards, two of which can be hens.

Other species limits include three wood ducks, one mottled duck, two redheads, three scaup, two pintails, two canvasbacks and one black duck.

The proposed daily bag limit of mergansers is five, only two of which may be hooded mergansers.

The possession limit for ducks and mergansers is three times the daily bag limit by species and sex.

For Canada geese and white-fronted geese, the daily bag limit will be two with a possession limit of six.
For snow geese, the proposed daily bag limit is 20 birds, with no possession limit.

Early teal and Sept. Canada goose season dates:

The September early Canada goose season is Sept. 1-15 with a daily limit of five and a possession limit of 15 geese in the north and central zones.

In the south central and south zones, there is a daily limit of two and a possession limit of six.

Illinois’ 16-day 2013 statewide teal hunting season is Sept. 7-22 with a daily limit of six and a possession limit of 18.
Shooting hours for the September teal season are different from the regular season, starting at sunrise – 30 minutes later than regular season - until sunset.
