No one knows exactly what the Illinois prairie sounded like before settlers arrived. But you can get an idea when you watch the latest in the Prairie Primer video series.
This installment features the rare prairie cicada. It is a large cicada found mostly in original prairie remnants, such as Anderson Prairie Park in Pana, where the video was made.
This is the fifth video in the Prairie Primer series, intended to introduce viewers to the tallgrass prairie that once covered 60 percent of Illinois.
