Pennsylvania makes lawful use of crossbows permanent

January 27, 2012 at 09:14 PM

Prairie State Outdoors

From Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners news release:

The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners today gave preliminary approval to make permanent the lawful use of crossbows in archery deer and bear seasons.

The Board took this action by removing the sunset date inserted into the regulations in 2009, which required the Board and agency staff to review the impact of expanded use of crossbows on the deer and bear resource before June 30, 2012.

The Board must give final adoption to this action in April.

Does anyone know if Illinois is close to
passing the use of crossbows or not ?  I
heard for the last 2 years it was close
to being passed.

59deerhunter,

As of right now, crossbow is still only for handicapped hunters in Illinois. The DNR & governing bodies are still dragging their butts and as of right now, it’s still on hold pending various studies.
