Shooting events

Pekin Union Mission Sporting Clay Shoot at Oak Ridge Sportsman’s Club in Mackinaw. Registration at 8 a.m. All proceeds benefit youth programs and food pantry at Pekin Union Mission. (309) 346-0724.

Peoria Skeet and Trap Club hosts annual Dove and Teal Hunter Tune-up. Doors open 10 a.m., shooting 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All proceeds to Greater Peoria Honor Flight. Open to all ages and shooting abilities. Entry fee of $50 includes 50-bird program, two boxes of shotgun shells (12 or 20 gauge), Honor Flight souvenir T-shirt (while supplies last) and lunch. RESULTS

Bass tournaments

Matt Bennett and Bob Klobnak won the Fellowship of Christian Anglers Society tournament Aug. 17-18 at Lake Jacksonville with 14 fish weighing 28.03 pounds. Roger Allen and Larry Miller placed second (8, 19.82) and Dave Ekema and Earl Waughop third (11, 16.94). Bob Hartman Sr. won big bass (5.38).

Jim Busche of Groveland won the Illinois Central Bass Club tournament Aug. 15 on Pool 19 of the Mississippi River with four fish weighing 9.42 pounds. Ken Wolland of Bartonville placed second (2, 5.54) and Bill Hurst of Bartonville third (2, 3.62). Ken Wolland and Duane Wolland tied for big bass (3.22).

Trap shoot

Peoria Skeet and Trap Club members competed in the Preliminary Week and the Grand Week of the Grand American World Trapshooting from Aug. 7-17 in Sparta. Top performers included: Dave Dressler (Sub Veteran Champion in Event 2 Handicap, 99x100); Denise Dressler (Lady 1 champion in Event 11 Handicap, 98x100); Ron Piro (Class A 3rd place in Event 4 Singles, 100x100, 23 to 24.5 yard champion in Event 13 Handicap, 97x100, Class B champion in Event 17 Doubles, 98x100); Tim Turpin (23 to 24.5 yard 3rd place in Event 5 Handicap, 97x100); Kevin Wunder (25 to 26.4 yard champion in Event 5 Handicap, 97x100, Class A 3rd place in Event 12 Doubles, 98x100); Hannah Martin (Sub Junior 3rd place in Event 20 Handicap, 96x100, Sub Junior champion in 28 gauge event, 46x50); Lora Murphy (Lady 2 3rd place in Grand American Handicap, Event 24, 95x100); Dennis Kerns (finished 6th overall in a field of 1,966 entries in the Grand American Handicap with a score of 98x100).
