New rule for PSO.com comments

January 29, 2009 at 06:55 PM

Sorry to bore you with mundane news on a day like this, but here goes.

Anyone who posts a comment on stories, blogs or articles that appear in Prairie State Outdoors.com will from now on be required to first register as a member.

Register as a new member.

That same requirement has been in place since the start of PSO.com for anyone who made comments on our Forum.

If you are already registered as a member, this will not matter. If you enjoy making multiple posts under made-up names and breaking the rules of posting etiquette, this will make it easier to determine who you are and where you are posting from. It will also allow us to refine our user banning. For instance, in the past we could ban users based on an IP address. But some businesses have only a few IP addresses for many users. So banning all of the potential users would be unfair. One bad apple etc. Now we can be more specific. Shame it has come to this, but life is what it is.

Again, sorry to interrupt a big-news day with this tiny-news item.

I haven’t seen anything on PSO like the flame wars that break out on every PJStar article but some accountability is nice. It would be a shame to see that happen.

I agree Clif, but I was very intrested to discover when I went to register so I could comment that someone had already used my email and username to register so I had to use my alternate email, so if anyone reads a comment by someone with the user name emt_peterson_apfd they are a fraud.
