New grass carp bowfishing record

August 11, 2009 at 02:24 PM

Emily Brooks has proved bowfishing is not the domain of men. Or adults, for that matter.

Brooks, 10, shot this 56.7-pound grass carp in the DesPlaines River Monday night (Aug. 10, 2009) to break the existing Bowfishing Association of America state record for that class.

According to Ed DeVries, Brooks only started bowfishing last year

That’s the third bowfishing record racked up by women recently. Liz Kovel set a state record for white sucker and Sharon Trame shot the state and world record snortnose gar.

The state record grass carp for pole-and-line fishing is a 69-pound, 8-ounce fish caught on July 13, 2000 on Lake Petersburg in Menard County by Josh Pryer.
