Muzzleloaders take 3,276 deer

December 17, 2010 at 02:04 PM

Prairie State Outdoors

Illinois deer hunters killed 3,276 deer during the muzzleloader deer season held Dec. 10-12.

That preliminary figure, released by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, is below last year’s 4,704.

During 2006, muzzleloaders took a record 5,973.

Pike County tops the list with 116 deer taken this year. Hunters in Fulton County killed 84, while those in Jo Daviess County took 82. LaSalle County was next with 77 and Bureau and Jefferson counties tied for the fifth spot with 74.

The late-winter antlerless-only and special chronic wasting disease seasons for handgun, muzzleloader and shotgun will be held Dec. 30-Jan. 2 and Jan. 14-16. Archery deer hunting also concludes Jan. 16.

I really wonder why this site went from posting articles every day to one or two every three days. I used to look at this site everyday, not any more. This was a great idea for a site, to bad it went to pot. I am wasting my time in getting on here every day!
