Man making animal noises in the woods shot by friend

October 25, 2011 at 01:22 PM

The Associated Press

MANLIUS, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a 20-year-old man suffered shotgun wounds after he made animal noises to scare friends in dark woods, prompting one of them to open fire.

Sgt. Tina Stanton of Manlius Police tells the Syracuse Post-Standard (http://bit.ly/qKmfCS ) that Stephen Comrie of Manlius was walking through the woods to a bonfire party around 11:30 Saturday night when he and another man decided to play a prank on the group around the fire. They crouched down and made animal noises for several minutes.

Stanton says 21-year-old Jeremy Messina fired his shotgun, striking Comrie in the face, forearm, chest and thigh. The victim walked out of the woods to get hospital treatment.

Messina was charged Sunday with felony reckless endangerment. Police didn’t know if he has a lawyer.
