August 18, 2010 at 05:02 PM

The Annual Kaskaskia Watershed Showcase sponsored by the Kaskaskia Watershed Association, Inc (KWA) in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be held on Aug. 26, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Yoder’s Restaurant and Convention Center in Arthur.  The topics for the showcase are Habitat, Water, and Tourism.

The Upper KWA, which reaches from the headwaters of the Kaskaskia River near Champaign, IL to the Lake Shelbyville Main Dam, will be hosting this year’s showcase. The Upper Kaskaskia Watershed Region has a lot to offer in regards to Habitat, Water, and Tourism.  Lake Shelbyville offers a variety of opportunities with its 11,100 acres of water, 36,000 acres of land, wildlife management areas, marinas, and federal and state parks.  The Amish Country in the Arthur-Arcola area offers an interpretive center, craftsmanship second to none, Rockome Gardens, agriculture including the unique Pumpkin Patch, and much, much, more.  Numerous displays, craftsmen, guest speakers, an update on Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP), and self-guided tours will make up the showcase that will make it an experience that you are sure to enjoy.
The purpose of the Showcase is for people throughout the watershed, which extends from the headwaters of the Kaskaskia River north of Champaign, IL, to the confluence of the Mississippi River, to experience what the watershed has to offer and to see how the watershed is important to so many lives and communities.

To register for the Showcase, please RSVP by August 20, 2010, to Lake Volunteers Association, PO Box 23, 711 E. North 9th Street, Shelbyville, IL 62565 or by e-mail .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).  There is a $15.00 registration fee to cover the cost of the meal and refreshments.
