It’s beginning to look a lot like… last year

Prairie State Outdoors

Preliminary archery harvest numbers through Dec. 18 from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources:

Illinois archery deer hunters have killed a preliminary total of 56,219 deer, compared to 58,207 during the same time period last year.

Cumulative harvest sex ratios for the season are 49.6 percent does and 50.4 percent bucks.

Recent harvest results have favored does.

Since Dec. 1, female deer have comprised 58.4 percent of the harvest. 

The top five counties so far are Pike (2,694), Fulton (1,679), Jefferson (1,268), Adams (1,252), and Peoria (1,103). 

For all seasons combined (archery, youth, muzzleloader, and firearm), preliminary deer harvest totals to date stand at 160,882, compared to 161,920 at this time in 2010. 

Dates for the seven-day split late-winter antlerless-only firearm deer season and the CWD deer season dates are Dec. 29 -Jan. 1 and Jan. 13-15. 

Archery deer season is open through Jan. 15.
