Illinois Audubon seeks nominees

April 16, 2010 at 12:05 PM

SPRINGFIELD, IL.  The Illinois Audubon Society (IAS), a not-for-profit organization whose mission is promoting the perpetuation and appreciation of native plants and animals and the habitats that support them, is accepting nominations for three annual awards to recognize excellence in fulfilling the mission of the Society.

The awards include the Mary Glenn Kirkland Volunteer Award which recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of volunteers in support of the goals, activities and operations of the Society; IAS Conservationist of the Year Award honoring significant contribution to wildlife and habitat conservation in Illinois; and the IAS Youth Conservationist Award acknowledging young people in Illinois for projects which demonstrate their commitment to the environment.

All winners (or group) will receive formal acknowledgement at the Society’s Annual Meeting and 1-year paid membership to IAS. The Society will pay travel and lodging expenses to the Annual Meeting for award recipients—in the event of an award to a group, expenses will be limited to two representatives of the group.

Individuals, organizations or agencies are welcome to make nominations and submit letters of support based upon the selection and eligibility criteria.  The deadline for submitting 2010 nominations is May 31st.  Nomination forms and a history of past recipients may be found on the IAS website at http://www.illinoisaudubon.org.  Forms will also be mailed at request by calling the office at 217.544.2473.
