Not many deer hunters get a second chance to bag a big buck.

Hunting in Greene County, Clyde Hutchinson got a second chance at this buck nicknamed “Flamethrower” because of the way his antlers glowed in a nighttime trail camera photo.

Here is Clyde’s story:

“I actually shot this buck three weeks before gun season with my bow,” Hutchinson wrote to Prairie State Outdoors.

“I brought deer tracking dogs in to find him but couldn’t because he was obviously still alive. The tracker suggested I hit him too high.

We have trail cam pictures of this deer dating back to 2010, and we were all after him at our camp, Taylor Creek.”

How Flamethrower got his name.

“My best friend, Lee Meyer, and I were (hidden) in a log pile with the wind in our favor in an area (where he had been captured on trail cameras and where we found his sheds in the past).

We were only 200 yards from where I shot him three weeks prior.

He came in behind us and winded us and almost got away.

I was able to put him down as Lee filmed.

It was an awesome experience to say the least.”

Flamethrower had 22 points and Hutchinson said he green-scored 208 inches.
