Illinois hunting and fishing

Havana Eagle Day Festival planned for Feb. 5

Eagle watchers will be able to view eagles along the riverfront in Havana and attend programs at Dickson Mounds Museum during a daylong festival Feb. 5.

The annual Eagle Day Festival starts at 8 a.m. with spotting scopes set up in Havana’s Riverfront Park.

Other events will be at Dickson Mounds Museum across the Illinois River just off Illinois 78/97.

All activities are free and open to the public.

Schedule:

Riverfront Park

Volunteers will be on hand to help visitors spot eagles from 8 a.m. – noon.

Dickson Mounds Museum

The Illinois Winter Wildlife Photography Show open to residents in Fulton and Mason Countries, and Eagle Art and Poetry created by students in the same area will be on display through March 1.

Kids activities will be available from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. including a “Birds in the Past” scavenger hunt in the museum’s exhibits.

At 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. a program with live birds of prey will be presented by the staff of Wildlife Prairie State Park.

Admission is free, but tickets must be picked up in the lobby of the museum.

Seating is limited.

At Noon there will be a showing of the movie American Eagle in the museum auditorium. 

This hour-long film from the PBS Series “Nature,” focuses on the bald eagle’s dramatic comeback.

Lunch will be available.
