The Rockford Park District officially opens Windsor Lake Activity Center, 7212 N. Alpine Road, Loves Park, to the public for its second season today.

The lake has been owned by the Carlson family for about 30 years. It was leased to the district in 2012 as a means to open it up for public use.

“Thanks to their generosity, our community will be able to enjoy another season of great fishing and paddling opportunities,” Jessica Steinberg, senior manager of operations, said in a news release.

Windsor Lake will be open daily from sunrise to sunset starting today.

The public is welcome to catch and release fishing (except for pan fish), along with various paddling opportunities such as kayaking, canoeing, and stand-up paddle boarding.

A $2 per hour daily fee is charged for anyone who wants to use a muscle-powered watercraft on the lake.

Reservation can be made online at http://www.rockfordparkdistrict.org/windsorlake.

Fishing is free. An Illinois fishing license is required.

The district partnered with area fishermen, paddlers, and residents of the neighborhood to create the Windsor Lake Watch Group, which will help operate and enforce rules and policies.

If you are interested in volunteer for the Windsor Lake Watch Group please contact Steinberg at 815-289-0748 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

A new boat launch area north of Advance Medical Rehabilitation Center (AMR), 1820 Windsor Road, Loves Park was allowed thanks to a partnership with the company.
