A bill designed to help the financially struggling Illinois Department of Natural Resources awaits Gov. Pat Quinn’s signature.
The proposal strips DNR of mandates that it does not or cannot fulfill. The bill’s chief sponsor, Rep. Frank Mautino, D-Spring Valley, has previously said DNR will face a $22 million shortfall in fiscal year 2014 as it will burn through its reserves and special funds.
The House unanimously agreed with the changes the Senate made to House Bill 404 Monday.
