DNR building named for Brunsvold

March 12, 2011 at 06:53 PM

The Associated Press

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources building at the Illinois State Fairgrounds has a new name: The Joel D. Brunsvold Building.

Brunsvold was director of natural resources for two years until his retirement in 2005. Before that, he was a Democratic member of the Illinois House from Milan for 20 years. He died in September at age 68.

Gov. Pat Quinn signed a bill renaming the building March 10.

While brunsvold may have been a voice for conservation while a legislator, he was a mime as director.  During his reign, blago dismantled the department while brunsvold sat by, in silence-collecting a huge salary and padding his pension.  There is NO doubt that brunsvold will go down as the WORST director in DOC/DNR history.
I hope the legislators had the foresight to pop for a wrecking ball to demolish the building as they are posing for the photo ops during the dedication of the building.  As joel oversaw the destruction of DNR, it is only fitting that the building should be razed at the instant that his name is put on the sign.
