The Lake Springfield Open Buddy Catfish Tournament Series kicked off March 16 in the wind, cold and fog.

Twenty boats braved the weather for the season opener, and the team of Mark Blough and Jim Funsch took first place with six channel catfish weighing 40.8 pounds.

Jason Rath and Bill Parfitt were second with six channel catfish totaling 37.4 pounds.

Third place went to the father-son team of Jerry and Dylan Cline.

They weighed six channel catfish weighing 30.5 pounds.

The Big Fish award for the day went to the team of Pete Ochs and Tim Branstetter with a channel catfish weighing 11.4 pounds.

The next tournament is April 20, with sign up from 6 – 6:45 a.m. at the beach house across from the Lindsay Bridge Boat Ramp.

Tournament hours are from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The entry fee is $60 per boat with an optional $10 for the big fish pot.
