Jo and Henry Haley of Carmi brought home top honors in the qualifying event for Crappie USA at Tennessee’s Old Hickory Lake at Sumner County, Tenn. Anglers from seven different states competed for cash and prizes along with a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. This year’s classic will be held Oct. 24-27, 2012 on the Barkley/Kentucky Lakes at Cadiz, Ky.

The Haley team competed in the semi-pro division. They weighed in a limit of crappie totaling 12.11 pounds and earning $1,000 along with an additional $175 for big fish of the event with a 2.06 pound crappie.

The Haleys were fishing Drakes Creek and Blue Glass, using tri color and glow Southern Pro jigs in 12 to 15 feet of water vertical jigging brush to catch 50 fish for the day.

The Haleys also captured the Ranger Cup Award in the semi-pro division for the event, earning the team an additional $500.

Second place went to the lone angler Tim Gill of Bowling Green, Ky., weighing in 10.25 pounds and earning $600. Third place was Larry Clark of Shepherdsville, Ky., who was also fishing alone to weigh in 9.05 pounds and earn $400. The fishing competition enjoyed good weather throughout the contest.

A complete list of tournament standings and downloadable photos for the event is available at crappieusa.com.
