Prairie State Outdoors

The Hickory Hills Chapter of the Illinois Audubon Society will hold its annual Owl Prowl and wiener roast on Nov. 3 at the Bremer Sanctuary north of Hillsboro.

Chapter members will host the wiener roast starting at 4 p.m. at the sanctuary barn.

Attendees are asked to bring hot dogs and a covered dish or snack, and are urged to bring their own lawn chairs and to dress warm.

The program will start at 5 p.m. with a presentation by amateur astronomer Steve Sands, a member of the International Dark-Sky Association.

Sands will speak on light pollution and its effect on the dark sky.

The owl prowl will begin at sunset following his presentation.

The Bremer Sanctuary is located one mile north of the Hillsboro courthouse square.

Take north Main Street out of Hillsboro (the North Road) and turn west onto Bremer Lane.

The sanctuary is at the end of the lane.
