Bald eagle events announced at Quincy, Shelbyville

Quincy
Great River Eagle Days will be held from 10 a.m - 5 p.m. Jan. 26. at America’s Best Value Inn located at 300 Gardner Expressway in Quincy.

Events are free and open to the public.

Dr. Drew Kaiser of the Raptor Rehabilitation Center will make a presentation at 10 a.m., followed by the Blessing of the Eagles Ceremony by Standing Bear Council at 11 a.m.

Additional entertainment and programs are planned, including performances by the Black Fox Singers & Native American dancers.

Eagle-watching at Quincy’s Lock & Dam 21 is available from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Rangers will be available with spotting scopes at the site. 

Lock & Dam 21 is on Lock & Dam Road, off Gardner Expressway.

The best viewing spot is from the adjoining boat ramp.

Lake Shelbyville
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is hosting its 2nd annual Eagle Day event Feb. 16 at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center. 

The Illinois Raptor Center will present birds of prey programs featuring a live bald eagle at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Programs are free, but seating is limited to the first 150 people. 

A portion of the tickets need to reserve these seats will be available to be picked up in person on a first come first serve basis at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center during normal business hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. starting Feb. 11.

There is a limit of six tickets per person that can be picked up prior to the day of the event. 

All remaining tickets will be available the day of the event.

From 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. park rangers will have spotting scopes and binoculars available in the lobby for those interested in viewing the birds on Lake Shelbyville.
