Prairie State Outdoors

From the Illinois Department of Natural Resources:

Illinois archery deer hunters have killed 55,188 deer through Dec. 11, behind last year’s pace of 57,398.

Cumulative sex ratios in the deer harvest to date have been 49.4 percent females to 50.6 percent males, but recent harvest has been more heavily weighted toward female deer.

Since the beginning of December, females have comprised 55 percent of deer taken.

Top five counties currently are Pike (2,656), Fulton (1,642), Adams (1,238), Jefferson (1,234), and Peoria (1,090).

he archery season continues through Jan. 15.

So what do the aggregate numbers look like combined across all seasons so far? We still have LWS and about a month of archery remaining (not that I’ll be participating)...

The total I have counting firearm, archery (to date), muzzleloader and youth seasons is: 159,626.

Last year, 182,270 deer were killed in all seasons, with 63,570 of those killed by archery hunters.
