Archery hunters battle rain and wind to stay ahead of last year’s pace

Despite a windy and rainy weekend, Illinois archery deer hunters are still ahead of last year’s pace.

IHunters harvested a preliminary total of 11,154 deer through Oct. 14.

“Harvest during the week remained strong, but heavy rain and strong winds throughout much of the state depressed weekend harvest,” said Paul Shelton, Illinois Department of Natural Resources wildlife program manager. “Last year’s preliminary harvest for the same period was 10,418, and the five-year average for 2007-2011 was 10,840.”

Harvest ratios to date consist of 71 percent does and 29 percent males (7,377 to 3041).

The top five counties are Pike (408), Fulton (327), Peoria (271), Jefferson (229), and Vermilion (227).

County by county totals are included below.
