Archery harvest ahead of last two years

December 11, 2008 at 03:14 PM

While firearm hunters are still debating what happened during their seven days of hunting, Illinois bowhunters are so far ahead of the harvest pace for the past few seasons.

Through Dec. 10 bowhunters had shot 57,565 whitetails, slightly ahead of 2006 (57,273) and 2007 (55,743) but and slightly behind the 2005 record-setting pace of 58,908.

The top five counties are Pike (3337), followed by Fulton (1624), Adams (1281), Jefferson (1267), and Peoria (1186).

Harvest sex ratios since the close of the first firearm deer season have been running almost 50:50, and the overal harvest sex ratios for the entire season to date are 49 percent does and 51 percent bucks.

Daily harvest rates have dropped significantly since the second firearm deer season, and have not exceeded 150 deer.

Here’s the county-by-county summary through Dec. 10.

still have alot of time left to put some more down.
For all you bowhunters out there looking for a great new product.  Just hung some muddy outdoors tree stands and they are great.  Out of Iowa, alot like a Lone Wolf but much cheaper.  They are a new company that I highly recommend. Rock solid and hang easy.  Be lookin for them.  Can’t wait till this wind slows so I can go sit em.
