Archery deer hunters top 60,000 as season enters home stretch

January 11, 2012 at 03:54 PM

Prairie State Outdoors

Archery deer hunters have killed 60,213 deer as of Jan. 11, and need just over 3,000 deer to match last year’s total.

Last year, archery hunters killed 63,597 deer.

Deer hunting in Illinois concludes Sunday.

The top counties so far this season for archery are:

1. Pike (2,879)

2. Fulton (1,770)

3. Jefferson (1,390)

4. Adams (1,334)

5. Peoria (1,175)

The second segment of the seven-day split late-winter, antlerless-only and special chronic wasting disease season will be held Friday - Sunday.

Who said archers aren’t management tools

Posted by Bwana on 01/12 at 06:52 AM

Its no suprise the count is down.  Late season weather conditions this season were not favorable for optimum deer daytime movement.
And the biggest reason I truly believe is that leases and outfitters are holding the deer herds on their properties with food and light hunting pressure.

Im not complaining its just the way it is. And thats why people complain they re not seeing and shooting deer and my friends are seeing 120 deer a night on their properties in the late season.
