Apply now for Decatur-area bow hunt

July 30, 2010 at 10:50 AM

Applications are now available for participation in the 2010 Archery Deer Herd Management Program at the Macon County Conservation District.

All applications must be submitted by August 31st, 2010 in order to be entered in the lottery drawing to bow hunt at the Rock Springs, Sand Creek, Friends Creek and Fort Daniel Conservation Areas.  The lottery drawing of all applicants will be held at the Rock Springs Nature Center at 3:00 p.m. on September 3rd, 2010 to determine program participants. Permits will be available after the lottery drawing.

“This program not only provides people in the community a place to bow hunt but it is also essential for managing the deer herd population at our sites.” Program Coordinator Mike Bricker said. “Managing the population helps ensure the public’s safety while keeping a balanced habitat for our native plants and wildlife.”

Selected participants will be able to hunt at the available sites from October 30 – December 26 excluding November 19th -21st, November 25, December 2nd-5th, and December 25.

Applications may be picked up at the Rock Springs Nature Center, 3939 Nearing Lane, Decatur Illinois from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, Saturdays 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Sundays 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Applications must be returned by August 31, 2010. For further information, contact Mike Bricker at 217/795-4421
