81-year-old shoots 12-pointer

November 20, 2007 at 07:38 AM

Did a priest’s prayers help Rudy Stinauer Sunday morning during the first firearm deer season?

More likely it was the perfect conditions that hunters in central Illinois have been reporting.

Whatever the case, 81-year-old Stinauer outdid his family by shooting a 12-point buck with a cool right main beam and a drop tine. Stinauer, a former fisheries biologist from Havana, was hunting in Mason County on private property.

The buck made a scrape at 8:30 a.m. and Stinauer did the rest. Wrote his son, Bob Stinauer:

“I think I saw the same buck during bow season about two weeks ago.  If you look closer at the pictures the bucks nose is shredded on one side from fighting. It had at least two broken points.”

Prior to his hunt, Rudy Stinauer was informed by his priest—Father Lopez—that the father had said special prayers for his hunt.

“He still has a doe tag. Hopefully Father Lopez can help him with that too,” Bob Stinauer wrote.

Great Job.  Congratulations to the Senior Gentleman. I hope I’m able to do the same when I’m 81 years of age!
